We hope you rested up this weekend, because we have a lot of work to do this week. Please plan to be at one or both of these rallies to make our community safer and saner.
WEDNESDAY, 5/31, 4-6PM OXNARD
Keep gathering signatures on your SB54 petitions for Assembly member Jaqui Irwin, because we're going to be rallying outside her Oxnard office on Wednesday, 5/31, from 4-6pm to make sure she knows we want her support on the California Values Act, SB54.
FRIDAY, 6/2, 5-7PM THOUSAND OAKS
The Ventura County Brady Campaign and Indivisible: Conejo's Gun Violence Prevention team are co-sponsoring this rally to honor victims of gun violence.
Indivisible: Conejo is working with CAUSE and the United Farmworkers to persuade Assembly member Jacqui Irwin (Ventura, Camarillo, Thousand Oaks) to support SB54, The California Values Act. SB54 protects our communities from being ripped apart by Trump's racist immigration policies, by ensuring police stick to local law enforcement instead of being dragged into radical Federal deportation policies. As residents of relatively wealthy eastern Ventura County, our voices need to be heard and our faces need to be seen in support of our migrant neighbors on the western side of the county. ICE detentions of migrants with no criminal record at all are up 40% this year; ICE is detaining students who are DACA recipients; and immigration enforcement is invading schools and houses of worship.
BACKGROUND: HONORING VICTIMS OF GUN VIOLENCE
Gun violence kills more than 90 Americans a day and injures hundreds more. That’s why this June 2nd on National Gun Violence Awareness Day, Americans across the country will Wear Orange—a color that demands to be seen—to send the powerful message that there is more we can do to end gun violence. Join the #WearOrange movement and attend the rally this Friday. For more information, visit https://wearorange.org.
