Hello, my name is __________, and I am a constituent of Senator/Representative ___________'s in _______________, California. I am calling to urge the senator/congressperson not to make any compromise on immigration that provides funding for President Trump's proposed border wall. Wasting $30 billion or more on this boondoggle would do little or nothing to slow immigration, but would stand as a monument to far-right xenophobia and wreak untold damage on America's standing in the world. The American people demand a clean, immediate solution to the Dreamers' plight, but will not stand for the investment in bigotry that wall funding would represent. Thank you!

BACKGROUND
On Thursday Trump offered what he called a compromise on immigration: protections for the Dreamers and other young immigrants, in exchange for limits on Green Cards for family members as well as on Diversity Visas ... and a $25 billion down payment on Trump's long-desired border wall. The proposal immediately was denounced from both the left and the right -- but a bipartisan group of senators said they viewed it as a stepping stone toward a bill that would resolve the Dreamers' status before DACA expires on March 5.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer says he offered Trump some wall funding as part of a last-ditch effort to avoid last week's government shutdown, but that Trump rejected the offer after initially showing interest. Schumer never should have made that offer. The vast majority of analysts believe a border wall of the sort Trump envisions would be an ineffective deterrent for immigrants -- but its symbolism would be disastrous for a "nation of immigrants." Democrats must stand firm against giving Trump a victory for xenophobia and racism.
