Sample Script:
Hello, my name is __________, and I am a constituent of Senator/Representative ___________'s in _______________, California. I am calling to urge the senator/congressperson to condemn President Trump’s closure of a border crossing, and his use of tear gas and other warlike means to stop migrants from requesting asylum as is allowed by U.S. law. Trump’s inhumane treatment of refugees must be stopped! I’m also asking that congressional Democrats commit to using every tool in the toolbox, from shutdown threats in December to defunding Trump’s border-control regime in January, to change administration policy on the treatment of refugees and immigrants. Thank you!

On Sunday, Trump administration officials closed off the busiest port of entry along the U.S.-Mexico border and fired tear gas at participants in a refugee caravan who were trying to cross onto American soil. The events, which began with a protest of the snail’s pace at which Trump’s Customs and Border Protection regime processes asylum claims, represented a serious escalation of Trump’s inhumane treatment of immigrants. Scenes of mothers and children choking on tear gas that had been fired into Mexico — part of a chaotic scramble as hundreds of migrants approaching the border were turned back by force — drew condemnation from around the world.
