Hello, my name is __________, and I am a constituent of Senator/Representative ___________'s in _______________, California. I am calling to let the senator/congressperson know that Americans aren't willing to wait any longer for Congress to act on gun violence. It's time to break through the NRA's stranglehold and close all the loopholes in the background check system, ban purchases and ownership of AR-15s and every other assault-style weapons, and develop a new regime of licensing, registration and insurance for all semi-automatic weapons and other handguns. This is the time -- not after the next shooting. We can't wait anymore! What is the congressman/senator planning to do about this issue when she/he returns to Washington next week? Americans are watching closely now, and nothing less than real action will be acceptable. Thank you!

BACKGROUND
The tide seems to be turning on Americans' willingness to put up with Congressional inaction on gun violence. The leadership and inspiration provided by the students who survived last week's school shooting in Parkland, FL, has added urgency to the conversation about placing new restrictions on gun ownership -- the process required to obtain a gun, the types of weapons that should be legal for private ownership, etc. It is essential that we raise the temperature on legislators at the congressional and state levels, focusing their attention on these issues and building upon the momentum those students have created.

In addition, as students in the Conejo Valley begin thinking about participating in the upcoming gun violence protests -- the National School Walkout on March 14, the March for Our Lives on March 24, and the April 20 walkout -- let's help them get organized and prepare to assist them in any way they require on those dates.
