Fighting Brett Kavanaugh's nomination to the Supreme Court isn't going to be easy. Because Republicans have eliminated the filibuster for nominees, Democrats must hold every one of their 49 "No" votes and poach at least two GOP senators. Achieving that goal will require every tool in the box: direct contact with senators' offices by phone/email/Resistbot/etc., public advocacy via letters to the editor and social media, and Indivisible's new virtual phone bank to reach voters in key swing states whose senators might determine Kavanaugh's fate. Additionally, we must engage in public protest that makes clear a groundswell of opposition is building!

Such public displays are crucial because the stakes are so great. Reproductive rights, same-sex marriage rights, the Affordable Care Act, consumer protections established after the Great Recession, and other American values are under threat as Trump and Kavanaugh push the court further to the right. Meanwhile, Kavanaugh's stated belief that presidents shouldn't be held accountable for their wrongdoing makes him the perfect Trump appointee: a lapdog who will look the other way as Trump seeks to end the Mueller investigation and turn the White House into a cesspool of corruption.
