Hello, my name is __________, and I am a constituent of Representative ___________'s in _______________, California. I am calling to urge the congressperson to pass legislation reopening the federal government without providing any funding for President Trump's border wall. The package of bills that restores function to numerous parts of the government, but allows for debate on the Department of Homeland Security to continue into February, is a sensible solution that will demonstrate Democrats’ commitment to governing responsibly. The American people demand a bill that reopens the government but does not invest in Trump’s bigotry. Thank you!

House Democratic leaders have settled on their legislative strategy to reopen the government, with votes expected soon after the party takes control Thursday at noon Eastern time. Democrats plan to vote on six Senate spending bills that passed with bipartisan support before being blocked by the GOP House last month, as well as a measure to reopen the Department of Homeland Security at its current funding levels through February 8. The measure would maintain the current $1.3 billion in border security money, which can be used for fencing and repairs of current barriers but not for Trump’s desired border wall.
