It's been an eventful week in health care politics (understatement). The Healthy California Act (SB 562) has been tabled, and Indivisible: Conejo's Health Team is fighting diligently on that front.
On the national level, Mitch McConnell decided to delay the vote on the Senate health care bill (BCRA) until after the July 4 recess, because he did not have the votes. He is now working to make changes to the bill to reach some sort of consensus by Friday and submit the new version to the CBO. The new strategy seems to be to buy off moderates with more money to tackle the opioid crisis while reducing some regulations to appease conservatives. The details for that are uncertain, but are not likely to help vulnerable American with pre-existing conditions or those that rely on Medicaid.
Indivisible and other advocacy groups are planning to fight this bill during the upcoming recess, o our team is having an "emergency" planning meeting to strategize ways we can promote our #RiseUp4HealthCare initiative and perhaps hold a creative "Independence" event/rally/protest next week during the recess. We could stage our event at a parade or rally already planned by sister Indivisible groups or others. Put on your thinking caps.
Since our last two meetings were on Saturday mornings, we will do the same this Saturday, July 1, from 10:00 to noon.
Thank you, and I hope you can all come on Saturday!
