March On The NRA

The March On The NRA is a nationwide follow-up to last spring's March For Our Lives, protesting the organization that controls the GOP, colludes with the Russians, and stands in the way of common-sense gun reform. The SoCal march starts with a rally in Brea and continues with a march to the NRA's California headquarters in Fullerton. Here in the Conejo Valley, the student leaders of Never Again SoCal have organized a bus to take protesters to Orange County.

Steve Knight's Early Retirement Party!

Steve Knight's Early Retirement Party!

Please make plans to join us as we kick off 2018 with the year’s first street protest – an Early Retirement Party for Rep. Steve Knight at his Simi Valley office on Sat., January 27 at 3:30 p.m.!

If you’ve followed our last two Weekly Newsletters, you’ve seen a Save the Date notice for a General Meeting on Jan. 28. However, following the success of Early Retirement Parties organized by Indivisible groups nationwide this month – including the rallies that helped Darrell Issa decide to give up his reelection bid – we decided it would be better to stage a rally than a meeting to celebrate Indivisible: Conejo’s first anniversary and point the way forward for 2018!

Over the next couple days we’ll be announcing a series of Postcard Parties for the coming week, where we’ll create messages congratulating Rep. Knight on his transition to post-congressional life! On the 27th we’ll have cake, party hats, a big Gold Watch for congressman Knight, and other festive accoutrements – and then we’ll follow Steve’s Retirement Party with Happy Hour margaritas at Chuy’s restaurant, right across the parking lot. Please check the link for details, and don’t miss 2018’s first Indivisible: Conejo event!

Women's March 2018

The response to our SWAN / Indivisible: Conejo bus charters from Conejo Valley activists has been incredible, and we're grateful for your collective enthusiasm! There will be a total of five(!) buses transporting about 160 marchers downtown.

If you are among those early RSVPs who have secured a seat, you should have received a confirmation email with payment details. Please note the due date for payment! If we have not received the $29 fee by that date (either Wednesday 1/10 or Friday 1/12), we will give your seat to the next person at the top of our waiting list.

If you RSVP'd but have NOT received such an email, you are on our waiting list. As other activists let us know they've made alternative plans, or fail to provide payment, we will fill their seats from the top of the list.

If you're concerned you won't make it to the top of the waiting list, or have only recently decided to attend the march, we encourage you to book a seat on the Rally Bus that will stop at the Lakes shopping center in Thousand Oaks on the morning of the 20th, on its way into the city.

Whether you ride that bus, take the Metro, or drive downtown, we encourage you to join other Indivisible: Conejo and SWAN activists as we march together! Once we have emerged from our chartered buses, we will convene at 8:30 a.m. at the Hilton Checkers Hotel, located at 535 S. Grand Ave. We'll head to Pershing Square from there, for the beginning of the march.

A couple of notes concerning signs: March organizers have disallowed the use of wooden sticks, poles or posts. Softer materials are allowed, however, such as giftwrap tubes. SWAN is hosting a sign-making party on Wednesday, January 17 at Create Studio, 31840 Village Center Drive in Westlake Village. Drop in anytime between 3 and 6 p.m. for materials and inspiration! There will be a $5 drop-in fee.

Those activists who are not interested in traveling into Los Angeles may want to head the opposite direction on the 20th. The group Justice For All is sponsoring an event called "Ventura County Rising" from 10 a.m. to noon at Plaza Park in downtown Ventura, 651 E Thompson Blvd. Indivisible Ventura co-leader Veronica James, who lost her own home in the Thomas Fire last month, will be among the speakers. Additionally, activists in Santa Barbara will have their own Women's March, beginning at 11 a.m. at De La Guerra Plaza (off State Street).

Wherever you march or protest, we encourage you to gather friends and family and get out on January 20. Let's remind Trump that the Resistance is strong, and it's a force he'll have to reckon with for as long as he holds office!

Conejo Valley Rally to Defend DACA

Today is a National Day of Action to defend DACA and the nearly 1 million Dreamers it protects. Join Indivisible: Conejo and other local activists as we express our support for the Dreamers and our local immigrant community; our disgust with Trump for placing the security of 800,000 Dreamers at risk -- including thousands in Ventura County; and our hope that Congress will pass legislation that protects these immigrants who were brought to the U.S. as children.
